Just what I've been sayin'!!!!!!!

Agree 110% Charlee - sometimes it is just ignorance (the ads that use "vintage" and "antique" in the same description kill me) but usually people are trying to make something out to be what it is NOT just so they can hopefully get someone else to buy unawares at inflated prices.
Hubby works PT at an antique mall - you wouldn't believe..................................!!!!
...it's a good thing he isn't on any commission, I know he has talked down more than one buyer LOL

Great article Charlee.

I really like the Worthpoint articles...and have learned a lot from them.

Yeah, the auctions used to drive me nuts, too. But, I guess I'd be in the same boat if I were suddenly selling a bunch of stuff I really didn't know anything about. (which is the case with a lot of sellers)

And old black Singer - must be rare. And antique. And one-of-a-kind. :D

wuv2quilt 01-07-2012 02:56 AM

How true, how true! This article should be posted for the sellers on CL....$500.00 for a "antique" Singer.......too much.

~~~The sellers in my area actually have machines listed in this price range~~~
imdelagarza62 01-07-2012 04:44 AM
This is a great article. Hope it helps to enlighten more people.
Rosewood9 01-07-2012 04:50 AM
I so agree!
Caroline S 01-07-2012 06:43 AM
Thanks Charlee. That piece was good reading.
The orange FW is still listed on CL here. He still wants 700.00 for it. LOL
How about this one on CL ladies. While they do not title it antique or vintage, I think it may be gold plated!
We need a separate thread for our "laugh of the day" where we can post all the silliness.
I agree with that one. I lurk at Craigs List a lot and I am constantly amazed with the prices people want for their machines in our area. Who is going to start the thread?????
jljack 01-07-2012 10:50 AM
It was a great article. I hate it when I see 1970s sewing machines on eBay listed as Antique. Really???? Too bad the people who would learn something by this article will most likely never see it.
And if you note how the information is typed in, you can see this is not a real intelligent person.
Great article, Charlee. Thank you for sending the link, I think I'll put it on my watch list.
LyndaK 01-08-2012 09:24 AM
Good article and so true, with the listings seen on eBay, CraigsList, and Kijiji up here in Canada. I also really like the ones that brand sewing machines as "heavy-duty" and "industrial strength". All I can think of are drain cleaners!
OMG! I payed $22.00 for mine just like that (including the cabinet)! However I'm willing to pay up to $150 for one for my apprentice. $850 outrageous!
miriam 01-08-2012 03:46 PM
Um, they will figure it out eventually... nobody is going to answer their ad...
purplefiend 01-08-2012 07:54 PM
I'm fed up with people trying to tell us that Featherweights are rare. PULEEZE!! They were made in the millions!
I found this on on ebay and have been watching it since July. I wrote to them and told them they would never get that amount for it. Was trying to be a good neighbor they only live 20 miles from me. The price goes from $399.95 to $319.96 all the time back and forth. http://www.ebay.com/itm/260827034639...84.m1438.l2649 so what ever I expect it will stay listed until someone not to smart buys it for the price. I only have 4 bk 221s, 1 beige 221, 4 white w/ green tint 221s and a black 222, never paid over $250 for any of them except for the 222 and we won't go there, lol. All of them in great shape. But what do I know right?
BarbaraSue 01-08-2012 08:33 PM
Great article Charlee, thanks for sharing. It is amazing to me what some will try to pass off as antique.
