leaf tension adjustment

It was asked today what the leaf tension adjustment is.

I prefer leaf tensions to the two disc, two springs, numbered dials that most of us are used to. So very simple. The thread comes off the bobbin, slides between two fingers of steel, usually a slot is in one as a guide. There is a hinge at the needlbar side that allows for some flex and there is an easy way to separate the discs for thread insertion. In the case of this Sew Easy, it is the roundish disk to the right of center. They thumbscrew in the middle is not only the mount, but also the way to change tension. Easy peasy.

There are, of course, variations.

Very interesting, that tension adjustment looks like it would be easier. Thank you Leon.

I believe I was the one inquiring about the leaf tension. Thank you, Leon, for the information. Fairly new to vintage machines even though I am an old fossil myself! Love the sound of an older machine as it purrs along.

Leon, thanks for the very clear instructions re leaf tensions. I was always puzzled by how it worked.

Glad to assist.

Leaf tensions are the best for heavier fabrics, in my experience. It is much easier to get minute adjustments and to see if it is right before the thread breaks! And no fiddle bits.
