Learning to do pictures (again)
 

Hi y'all. I have a GS here teaching me to do pictures. Here goes with my latest acquisition--need help with that too.

Take a bow, you successfully posted pictures! What a beautiful antique Singer. The vintage machine enthusiasts will go gaga over that one!

Now that the kids are gone and I can think, someone please tell me what it is. It was given to me yesterday by a friend who bought it for $5 at a yard sale. It is rusted almost solid, very dirty, and I don't know the first thing about one of these things. I think I have seen a picture and discussion about it previously on the QB, but cannot remember where or when. It is little tiny, and not very heavy. Really cute. It is a Singer, and that plate thing on it has some pitting, but the gold is still fairly decent. No needle. So Glenn, CD in OK, Macybaby, Miriam, Cari-in-Oly, SteveH, gimme some help.

I have my 9-patch squares ready to mail tomorrow.

Great gift! You might start by looking at the sticky for cleaning old sewing machines and watch Muv's videos. Use sewing machine only and oil everything that moves or looks like it should move. The fact that you can move it at all tells me it won't be too bad to free the rest of it up. Be patient. It didn't get stuck overnight and it will probably take a little time and effort to get it working again.
I know nothing about the smaller machines like yours so I can't help with specifics.

Pictures: I was thinking it might be best to leave the double pictures double. I just had the thought that when admin fixes the bug that's causing the double pictures the "extra" ones might disappear. If that happens, we might lose part of the picture record if both sets aren't there.

LOL, Cari--me too. I am getting a couple of sewing machines ready for a craft show up the street this weekend--One of them is behind the little beauty I made the picture of. My son snagged it at an auction a few weeks ago--and wants me to sell it for a million dollars--it is turquoise and matches our 58 Chevy. Seriously, though it is really pretty and it really took all the wind out of his sails for me to tell him "I don't know, maybe $50" so when he sees it in my space at the show, he is probably going to make me pull it out. And he can't even sew one stitch.....I'll try again with the pictures and post one of it. GS sat here with me for 30 minutes patiently saying, "No grannie, not that button, and don't click but once".

Yup - a Singer 24. It's a chain stitch machine.

What type of attachment does it have for feet? I've seen them with both side clamp and one that looks like a U and slips into a slot on the presser bar. Both can be bought aftermarket - finding originals can be difficult.

Singer made many modifications of these for commercial sewing (basic machine is the same). Yours looks like it may be one of the "special purpose" machines as it looks like there are some different parts on it. Even if the special parts aren't all there, I think you can still end up with a nice chainstitch machine.
