LED light bulb Question

I have a few sewing machine bulbs that get HOT and I want to change them to the new LED bulbs. does anyone know if the lights for RV's (similar bayonet style) work for sewing machines? Trying to save money but NOT at the cost of my machine.

There has been discussion about this on one of the Yahoo groups. There are now LED bulbs being made that will work in sewing machines. I've seen them at Home Depot or Lowes and on Ebay. I want to start converting my machines too as I have a couple with burnt fixtures from previous owners using bulbs that were too hot.

I would say probably not, as most RV lights are designed to run on 12v (batteries) as well as 120v.

I just use my stand alone IKEA lamp. But I sure do wish for an LED light on the sewing machine.

I think the biggest challenge is where to put the transformer. I can't remember the name of the member here but they did a pretty neat conversion a while back It's one of those thing that I would like to do at some point but it hasn't been enough of a priority for me to actually start.

Transformer? I don't understand. Here's two examples of what I was talking about.

Cari,

That is a nice looking bulb. I'd like to try one or two eventually as I have a couple machines that the lights are in a bad place for burns.
The only thing is most of my machines use the screw in bulbs and so far I've only seen these LED bulbs with bayonet bases.

It's a great idea and I'll try them when they are available.

I've never seen any at Lowes or any other home improvement type store. I'll look harder next time I visit one.

Here you go, here's two I think will work maybe. But you get the idea that they're out there.

It looks like IKEA has some, too. I love my LED lights - they never get hot. I'm slowly replacing light bulbs around here with LEDs. I don't think they are as bright but if you use task lighting you can get by nicely.

My neighbor converted his whole house a couple years ago and gave me a few of them. Two LED bulbs in my bathroom fixture light it up way brighter than 4 regular bulbs did. I guess it depends on the type of LED bulb.
