301 is aluminum bodied adn very nice 99 is a 3/4 machine and a small number of them were made of aluminum Those are all Singers. Post war Japanese machines were nearly all cast iron. Some Domestics/Whites were made of magnesium but they don't have much of a following. |
I too would suggest a Singer 301 which are reasonably priced

I've wanted one of those aluminum Japanese 3/4 forever! Congrats. Good choice.

Allan, I completely forgot about the 99 clones like the Sewmor Featherweight and Belair Bantam. When you said you got Featherlight, I was thinking you had gotten a Featherlite , aka Flower. I had done some research about the Featherlite and what little I found, was not positive. I must have missed https://www.sewinginsight.com/other-...erlite-review/ There are a couple different Sewmor Featherweight's shown at https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...e-t257178.html We like pictures :) Please post some when you get it. Bernina has some Minimatics that are 3/4 size. The models that I can remember are 707, 801 and 807. They weigh about the same as a Featherweight. But the Featherweight has a smaller carry case.
