Ended up cutting trip short.

We were doing a "shop hop" looking for Row by Row license plates. First place we stopped at informed us that the forth place we had on our list was temporarily closed - and may end up going out of business. Third one we stopped at was sold out, so I called the farthest away one to be safe, and found out they were not offering license plates to go with the Row.

So we ended up heading back home from Sioux Falls instead of heading 2 hours north. Didn't feel like driving that far just for thrift shops today.

Came home with three machines, two licenses plates and Rows, and some really neat fabric!

Here they are.

We stopped at the quilt shop, and got to talking. She has several vintage machines up on top of the shelves of fabric. We were trying to figure out what the Gold Hubbard was, and she said they all were for sale, and brought out a ladder so we could see it.

It's a Davis, and though the slide won't budge, it does have the shuttle. We got to talking and she said we could take it, as we know what it was.

We visited some more (no one else in the shop) and she told us about the thrift store and vintage store in town (very small town). She also said her husband loved to go to auctions, and had the nickname as the dollar guy - because he picked up so much for $1 that no one else wanted.

Then she said there were more machines - and pointed down the wall. I turned around and my jaw dropped.

Some of you may remember the discussion about the Wards Reversew machine? I commented that I'd really like to find one like the one in the case as shown in the manual.

Will, this is what was sitting up on her shelf.

No cord or pedal, but I do have them, and this machine can also be wired to use a regular plug setup. It's just so darn cute!

Then we headed a few blocks down, checked out the antique store and saw a few machines, but nothing we wanted. Walked a block down and around the corner to the thrift shop, and a small sewing cabinet was sitting out by the door. DH opened it, saw what it was and said "I'll get the van". Yea, he took about 10 seconds to decide he wanted this - had a price tag of $15 on it.

Awesome haul - sounds like a good trip!

ASKING prices in the Seattle area appear to be going through the roof :-( -- even Craigslist "window shopping" is not much fun any more.

Except for this -- but I don't want a treadle, I am partial to portables.

Row by Row - first year any stores in South Dakota have participated.

I'd love to collect more licenses plates, but we do most of our traveling too late in the fall.

Interesting idea! OK then the collecting of license plates? Is that real physical ones or pictures?
