Longest road trip to get a machine?
 

How far have you travelled to get a VSM? Tell your tale here!

2 hrs is about my limit. That puts me in two different metropolitan areas, Portland and Seattle. Any farther than that and I would seriously consider shipping if it's just a machine head.

Well, I go visit family 500 miles away and look for machines, and I go visit family 1600 miles away, and look for machines. But about the farthest I've gone JUST to get a machine is about 670 miles (one way). It's rare when I find a machine less than an hour away.

Twice I've driven down to St. Louis to pick up machines, and visit friends at the same time, but the main reason was for the machine. (but don't tell my friend that LOL!!)

My record is the 1862 Grover & Baker Doublechainstitch machine trip.

We drove from San Lorenzo, California to Walla Walla Washington. almost 800 miles each way (we took 101 all the way to Portland then headed east) We drove there picked up the machine, chatted about an hour, had a sit down meal and then drove home.... LOOOONG weekend 36 hours total. But worth it for a Civil War era sewing machine. (not the one used as my avatar, that was a 20 minute drive each way)

Well, I can't top that but I did drive 2 hours to Dayton for a box. It was also a good excuse to take the DGKs to the Air-force Museum.

I don't think I would make 800 miles for a machine! We did drive about 4 hours round-trip to get the Minnesota Model A. If we hadn't picked it up when we did, it would have been a regular rust bucket for sure. The guy had it sitting out under a carport and it was raining cats and dogs that night. Of course, we left after 5:00 p.m. to drive to get the machine -- that's a little hard when you have to get up the next morning and go to work! I have to say I admire your spunk!

2.5 - 3 hours, one way. I'm in the Seattle area and I've considered machines in Pocatello, ID and Hayward, CA. I would be willing to fly to, say, Minneapolis, rent a car, pick up the machine, then drive back, drop off the machine, then the car. That would be one expensive machine, though.
