Awesome! Good deal! Thanks for sharing :)

Hidden treasure there...check out the serial number on the Singer site and you will be able to identify year, model no. and place of manufacture. Look forward to seeing what you do with "her". Oh and if you need help/info the Vintage Machine Shop is well worth a visit.

Congratulations!!! Actually, she looks pretty good. Her decals are in wonderful shape, she just needs a day at the spa :-D

Which model is it? Is this your first vintage machine? If it is, it won't be your last....hahaha :D

boosgmom 02-11-2011 07:37 PM

lucky you! A quilt guild here in Maryland was given a 1956 Featherweight 221 for them to auction off. case and all. It is showroom perfect. I bought 1 ticket as that is all the money I had with me. But definitely plan to buy a bunch more.

She's a 1947. And the cabinet came with her!
No, I just bought a 1934 15 91 about a month ago- I've already quilted a small quilt on it, and I love it! Plus I have a 1974 (vintage?) Viking that I do piecing on. My DH is starting to worry!

Model 99? Good for you!

I went to look at a 201 today, also Craigslist, but decided to pass on it. It had electrical problems and she wanted too much $ for what I'd have to pay to get it working right. Too bad.

hperttula123 02-11-2011 08:01 PM

You are so lucky!!! That's great! :)

No, it's a 66, and I stand corrected, she's a 1948.

sharoney 02-11-2011 08:04 PM

I'm just hoping I can find someone locally to fix her up.

carolaug 02-11-2011 08:11 PM

I have a 66 but it's a 1908 and so it doesn't have the reverse lever. That came later... (It has the back clamping feet, too.) The 99s are like a 3/4 scale version of the 66, with that reverse lever. Nice machine and a super price!

The wiring probably needs to be changed... As for the rest of it, you can go over it all and refurb it yourself, if you are so inclined. It's fun. Here's the best website I've found to guide you through restoring these machines:

http://www.tfsr.org/publications/tec...achine_manual/
Check out all the links on refurbishing. It's extremely thorough.

Wow! Thanks! She absolutely needs new wiring, but I am a diy-er, so maybe I'll at least look at it before taking it to someone else.

great job

freemo 02-11-2011 09:33 PM

Congrats you will love it! I have a Singer 15-91 that I bought at a auction for $26 about 19 years ago and sew on it all the time.

GrammaBabs 02-12-2011 06:04 AM

super.... although i look at these old singers with fond memories... it's probably not the same one, but most of what i see here is like the old 201 that i used for years!!!!
as a young girl (and i mean young...started at 14yrs), i worked in a yarn shop... we did "finsih work" on customers sweaters... many wanted machine buttonholes,,, i did thousands!!! too funny.... we would "crochet front", hand sew grosgrain ribbon... then i would make "machine buttonholes" with the old "grist" attachment... the bottom teeth on that "puppy" are sharp and to get the sweater front under the presserfoot... we used "folded WAX PAPER" to slide it ... LOL.. then things got really easy when we discovered the clear plastic heavy vinyl!!! sorry to bore you girls, but could not resist sharing... those were the good old days.. oh, BTW... we got 25cents a buttonhole and $1.00 to sew on the ribbon!!!! IMAGINE!!!!
