Look What I Found this Past Weekend !!

i have been looking for a good deal on a Singer FW and luckily found one at CL. She is a new addition to my 'friends'. i have a singer 16-188 industrial sewing machine, a singer 201-2 (potted motor), and a singer 99 (aluminum body). she's having a minor make over (oiling and cleaning). there was an estate sale here in the East Bay that i missed - and they were selling a singer FW. to think that it was only about 10 miles from my place. i tried emailing them to check if they still have it but have not heard anything. would be nice to have 2 FWs. now all i am looking for is a FW 222 which is so expensive and hard to come by. sorry for the post as i am a newbie here. thanks again.

She is very pretty.... I love my FWs (have 4) but I'm thinking of selling a couple. I don't need 4.

thanks to all. you can't never have enough of FW's. they're just so nice and fun to use.

I'm not sure need has anything to do with it. I didn't understand the FW mania, but was sewing on one last Fall and it truly did make a pretty straight stitch. I have 3 white and 2 black and plan to spend New Years Day making them pretty. I'll keep one of each. At least they take up less room than the treadles.

Congratulations on getting your Featherweight! I have one too, but lately I’ve gotten caught up in industrial machines. Can we see a photo of your Singer 16-188?

I passed one up about 50 miles from me a couple of weeks ago. I’ll probably regret that decision. I’ve had remorse from passing up machines before, so this one will probably be another one....

here's my 16-188. story of this one - i was looking at CL and found this 16-188 that was listed for $1. you know how CL works - when it's $1 on the header it means more when you open and read the contents of the ads. out of curiosity i emailed the guy and it took me a couple emails for him to reply. i clearly asked him if he is really selling it for $1 ! he said yes. he just want this out of the house. it's just 12 miles from me so no biggie. drove there and i saw the machine just sitting on the curve. i was like - what - anyone can just grab that and run. called the guy and talked to him and was nice enough to even help me carry it in my truck. when i saw that everything looks ok i grabbed a $1 and added $4 more. i was like thanks for helping me. just waiting for some parts i ordered online and i will try to run it. thanks.

Singer 31-15 Treadle

Thanks for the photo. I’m going to have to get me one of those someday. I want to try one in my treadle. The one I passed on was $345 more than you gave for yours. Not a terrible price for one, but more than I could justify just to play with....

I like old Singer industrial machines, and I don’t have a model 16 yet.

She looks like a beauty. I love the scroll faceplate.

Lyncat 11-27-2013 06:31 AM

She's a pretty one! Welcome to the club!

vmaniqui 11-27-2013 02:32 PM

thank you all. i know she's a beauty and need to baby it as i plan on giving it to my daughter (she's not into sewing yet but hopefully in time she'll do it).

gramquilter2 11-27-2013 02:56 PM

Great looking machine, enjoy sewing on her.

that's a great idea. mine came with the original table though but this one on treadle looks nice.

Your Featherweight is beautiful! I have one myself (white) 1954, but I would love to find one for my cousin. My problem, as it is with everyone, is that I'm financially challenged right now! I can't afford to pay the going prices, so I've been just not worrying about it!
