Look what I got!!!

My sister bought out an estate. She got the house, several storage buildings, 2 trailers and all of their contents. When I first saw this baby, I asked her if she wanted to see it. She asked me what I'd give her for it. I made her an offer and she excepted. But, my BIL said that he wanted it. So, my offer was declined. Then out of the wild blue yonder, she called me the other day and asked if I still wanted it. Didn't take me long to say,"Heck yes!!!!" I didn't waste any time going and picking it up. Don't know what I got, except that it is an old treddle Singer. It still has the little pin cushion wrapped around and stitched on the top of it. Take a look at my new baby. Any one got an idea of a name for her?

Wow the paint on it is in great condition.

Awesome! Name? I would probably look up a bunch of old-fashioned names and see which one "fits" her. :)

newbee3 09-12-2013 12:58 PM

we got one just like it she does not have a name other than singer

Mariposa 09-12-2013 01:10 PM

She needs a "vintage" name~ :)

sewmom 09-12-2013 01:22 PM

Aren't the decals on it the Sphinx decals? If so - how about Cleopatra or Cleo?

J Miller 09-12-2013 03:04 PM

Name her Goldie.

What a beauty. Can remember my grandmother having one and that's what I was allowed to use when I was starting out making doll clothes. You lucky duck....you!!!!! :D

Abby/ Abyss.

127 with the Sphinx decals. The cabinet is # 5. I really like the 7 drawer cabinets. A very nice find.

I can feel the excitement! I'm so happy for you. It needs some tender loving care, I found some great advice on this forum when I restored my old Singer tables. You need to be careful around the old shellac. I know you'll have fun with her!

AngeliaNR 09-12-2013 04:46 PM

Dorcas seems to fit

zozee 09-12-2013 04:57 PM

She's pretty. I think she looks like an Eleanor. Classy lady.

valleyquiltermo 09-12-2013 05:03 PM

Beautiful Marylin, a name that fits I think, she is a beautiful machine and cabinet.:o

She's a beauty! My mom had an old Singer Treadle -- but I was too young to remember what model or anything!

Don't have any suggestion for a name, just enjoy her.

Second chance??

#1piecemaker 09-13-2013 05:44 AM

I even have the key to the drawers in it. That is super special!! I can't wait to get her all oiled up and a new belt for her. Hope I can find one.

MaryMo 09-13-2013 05:56 AM

What a great find! What is your BIL's name? Maybe honoring him somehow for your good forture? or maybe sister's name? Got to give some credit to the people who provide for you .....
Now what is your sister going to do with the contents of that estate? There must be some other finds there.

Wanabee Quiltin 09-13-2013 06:44 AM

I'm thinking Grace is a good name. You got her by the Grace of God (or by your BIL who didn't want her).

Or maybe the name of the lady whose home your sister purchased (the original? owner)?

Martha, had a great Aunt by that name and you don't hear it now days.

omacookie 09-13-2013 11:29 AM

How about Sophie Singer ? Hugs

tweety2 09-14-2013 05:36 AM

Wow! What a beauty!

JENNR8R 09-14-2013 05:46 AM

Gertrude is an old-fashioned name which was briefly, but hugely popular during the revival of antique names in the late 19th century. Now the name is considered obsolete.

Annaquilts 09-14-2013 05:52 AM

Her name is gorgeous. It looks like she is an older treadle. A sphinx in great condition with my favorite cabinet,no reverse. Enjoy! I am glad they changed their mind and you got it.

wordpaintervs 09-14-2013 08:13 AM

How about 'Memory' for memories within her

just a thought

mjhaess 09-14-2013 12:46 PM

Shes a beauty...You should name her......She is yours.

PattR 09-14-2013 03:51 PM

How about "JOY", you seem so happy with her and I am sure you will enJOY having her.

mom-6 09-14-2013 04:17 PM

My first thought for a name was "Beauty".

GreyQ 09-16-2013 06:01 AM

I think I'm dying of envy! Name her after my belly dance name - Jamilla = Beautiful

The Egyptian theme would be nice. Maybe a Pharaoh's name?

Threadbanger 09-16-2013 05:31 PM

Isis or Nephertiti are good Egyptian names.

KatsKidinWI 09-16-2013 05:38 PM
