Look what my Singer Spartan learned to do!

Hello to all,

Saturday my sister invited me to attend a basic sewing class making placemats. Sis picked the fabric and coached me on layout and rotary cutting. We were able to complete one each and it was a lot of fun. I was able to complete two more over the next few days. Sis also gave me a bag of cut strips of different pattern. I made four 8" blocks and will make eight more and attempt to make a small table runner. My sister, ya just gotta love her. Attached a few pictures of the projects. I used my Singer Spartan and sis used her 221-1. Chow for now.

Good job! The bright colors are just in time for Mardi Gras!

Good for you; nicely done. Your Spartan is happy having a real job!

Very nice work and cool colors! I saw another machine in the background of the first picture. Is that another Spartan or a 99?

You have a good eye. It's my other Spartan. It is sitting in the "Place of Honor" where my 221-1 usually sits. I took the 221-1 to the class as a backup forgetting that the Spartan is not a computer driven machine and the 221-1 would not be needed and is still in it's case. It will return to it's rightful place tonight.

This is making me drag out my Spartan today and give it some love. What base is yours in? I like that.

My Spartan's came in these plastic cases. The 52' is black and the 55' is green. They were called Spartan due to lack of embellishments and creature comforts. There is a thumbscrew or wingnut on the underside for removal of the base. I do not know what the original brochures would show, but the 52' has a light and the 55' does not. I understand that they were the ultimate no frills Singers.
