I thought I'd mention too, you may want to find a "newish" 99. The 99K and the 99 don't share a few parts, such as the springs in the bobbin winder assembly. The old 99 uses the same spring as in a 115,.. discontinued. If he finds himself needing parts, or someone to find them and ship them to him, parts for the newer 99K would be easier to get.

just wondering. have you/will you do some practice sewing on the type of material he is going to be sewing/repairing, before you ship. i know you probably have already thought of that. i just know that some of my machines handled the heavier fatique material, while other machines wouldn't. the same with blue jeans, and the newer machines. so glad you are doing this. hope they will be able to throw it in a truck, and take it along with them as they move around. many military people in my family. we so appreciate them.

wow, I am in love with this board. I am also excited to share his address with my 13 year old. He got an address of a soldier for a school project, and has never received a response. My kid is a weapons NUT, and he was so excited to collect stuff to send. He was so disappointed when it came to naught.

I'll let him pour his enthusiasm here, to a soldier that will appreciate it, and deserve it! =))
