Looking for information
I found a treadle machine at a yard sale. It is a La Reine & the only # on it is 53797. I have not been able to find any information on this machine. Would like to know where it was made & maybe the year of it. I have looked everywhere & can't find a thing about it. I would be great full if anyone could help me. Thanks loads. Halo
PS: Would send a picture if I could, but not able to. |
Did you buy the machine?
We would need pictures. It was (and still is) very common for manufacturers to make machines for other companies and put whatever name the buyers wanted on them. Singer and White both have good records of their serial numbers. Most companies either don't or they've all been lost over the years. There are several people here that can tell you who made the machine from a picture. Sorry I'm not more helpful. Rodney |
Halo,
There's a "La Reina" on the Needle List which was made by Mason (or White). There's also an old German hand crank made by Muller badged La Reina: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...sewing-machine No picture available on the Mason / White version. Let us know if we're warm. Jon |

Where was the number? that can help in determining the Mfg.

Hmmm- was just reading a thread about someone having a Davis that was branded LaReine
So it looks like we've found three manufacturers it could have been. Wow - just found a thread from three years ago - another person bought this machine (same number) and was asking about it. Though the picture is gone, the "expert" said it was similar to Eldredge and Davis of that time period. Now no expert would EVER get a Davis and Eldredge mixed up - they are very dissimilar in some important areas. So either this is an April Fool's Day joke, or it actually is the same machine, or that is not a serial number, but a patent number. i |
La Reine is french for queen so it might be a pretty popular name. I took German in school so I was ignorant of this until today. Thanks!

was wondering about that - though now I'd like to make a chemise a la reine after looking at all the pictures - a camisole for a queen!

So, maybe it was the name they put on the machine like mine for sale down in LA.

Macybaby, The number is on the base of the machine in the back right hand corner & it looks nothing like the New Queens machine. That post from three years ago may have been me also as I did ask about it before, but nothing was helpful at that time. jlhmnj, Not like the Miller La Reina either. This did give me a few more places to look & will check them out. Sure wish I had a way to send a picture of it. Thanks everyone.
