Machine Pulling Fabric To The Right
 

I have an original hand crank and it seems to be working just fine and makes a nice stitch. However, whenever I start to sew a seam the it wants to pull to the right. Now I know that I have to guide the material but this just seems to want to pull to much to the right and I can't keep it straight with one hand while I hand crank with the other. Maybe someone on this wonderful, full of knowledge, board can help me.

When DH has this problem, its was from the pressure foot bar not being turned so the foot is exactly aligned with the feed dogs. His 201 was doing this, so he had to loosen and turn the presser foot bar and after that it sews very, very straight.

BTW - it sort of looks like you've got a zigzag foot on that machine - put a narrow straight foot on and that may be all you need.

Looks like a severe miss alignment of the presser foot to me. Just changing feet wont help at all if that's the case.

Looking at the second picture, I can't tell if the presser foot is up or down, but if down, it looks like there is very little of the foot that is contacting the feed dogs.

Whether the alignment is right or wrong, as others have suggested, using the correct foot would be a good idea.

Very pretty machine. It looks like a zigzag foot to me too. I'm with the others. Try your straight stitch foot first if you have one. That's easiest.

It's a SS machine only. It shouldn't use a zig zag foot, like the others said.

I'm not trying to stir things up, or argue, but I have used ZZ feet on SS machines and have had no problems. That is - IF the presser foot bar is adjusted properly to put the foot parallel with the dogs.

In the pics above there looks to be a misalignment of the foot to dogs to my eyes. So, buy all means put a SS foot on it and try it. If that fixes it, great. If not then an adjustment is needed.

Putting on a straight stitch foot will make it real easy to tell if the feed dogs are aligned or not.

I would not think it matters - UNLESS someone put on a Satin Foot and not a regular zig zag foot. but if you want to rule out the simple stuff first, that is where I'd start.

I just went and looked at my 28 - (same vintage) and I would bet that using a zigzag foot on this machine WOULD cause problems. It is differnet than my 27, 66, 15 and 201 (didn't look at any others). There is almost NO feed to the left of the needle. It is to the right and behind.
