Making a Quilted Case for my Featherweight Case
 

I've been taking my featherweight with me to my weekly "Patches" group sew-ins but I'm worried that my featherweight case will take damage from being packed up and dragged around weekly. Has anyone ever made a quilted cover for your featherweight case? Sounds redundant, but I think I need to make one. I'd love to see pictures.

Sorry, I don't have a picture - but yes, I made bags for all of my featherweights. The cases are made of wood and are so old, that I just don't trust them. My step-mom picked one of hers up by the handle and the bottom fell out of it. Thankfully it was only only a few inches off the ground when it fell apart.

I modified it slightly - I made it so the top and bottom are zipped together. I also did not put the hole in the top for the handle.

This is a pattern I too will consider for my 221.

I have a carry-on suitcase that I use for my FW. My husband modified it by adding pick and pluck foam so there is a cut-out for the machine to sit in. Then there is a cut out for my box of notions and rulers. Everything goes in there and doesn't move or wiggle. It is a hard sided suitcase so I would have no problem checking it on a plane and wouldn't worry about any damage. TSA might wonder what that's all about but it works for me. I will try to remember to take a picture when I get home.

That also sounds like a great solution. I'd love to see pictures when convenient.

I have not made a case for mine. It occurs to me that you could use something similar to the casserole dish patterns so that you could use it as both your carrying/safety function and then as a mat with the gadget holder down the front of the table. That would make it multi-functional.

I bought a small suitcase on wheels at Wallmart for about $30. It's a perfect fit for my featherweight and miscellaneous notions when traveling.

I also made the one from the Featherweight Shop - purchased pattern. Then I saw the one that "osewme" is talking about and made that for my 2nd Featherweight - I prefer the one that "osewme" linked love it in fact!

Harbor Freight stores have a good selection of canvas carrying cases for tools. I bought one for my Featherweight to take to classes. Might be worth a try for you.

I used this youtube video to make one for mine - great to use her design because it will fit your case exactly - did mine for my white FW.

This is not the best picture, but what this is, is a tiny "doorstop" that I made for the screw that bumps the flap that folds up on my featherweight. This is small pieces of wool that I gathered around the base of the screw and secured with thread. The screw still functions normally, it just does not scratch the finish on the flap anymore.
