McKee's sewing machine

Hello all,

My friend with the Free machine base that I was able to salvage for her returned the favor Saturday. She gave me this machine that wound up in her antique store. I think the color is turquois & light mint green. The decal says "McKee's-dressmaker standard" and weighs in at a hefty 34 lb. I want to check the RPM's with my digital tack. I think this may be the fastest SPM in the collection. I also included a pic of the quilt I finished Sunday which was made on a vintage Kenmore, Riccar and Dressmaker. I have one more waiting on binding and will start on it tonight. Hope you enjoy the pics. Chow for now.

Soman2,

The other Rodney;)

Pretty machine! I love the colors of the Japanese machines! The quilt is very pretty, and it's cool that it has a similar blue/green to the machine in the border and binding. Do you do anything with places where the paint is chipped off the machine? I have a pink Wizard with lots of chips - have thought about trying model paint, but I have several others I want to get up and running first.

Thanks for the tip on the Restore a Finish - I'll look for that!

Margaret,

I do not retouch the paint/chips. Trying to match and refinish paint on these old machines is not worth it IMHO. I consider their blemish's as a badge of honor-they earned them the hard way. My sister recently had a 221 that went through Katrina given to her. She had it professionally restored and that cost her $300. It looks brand new and that is what she wanted. It was fully functional before the redo.

Great machine and quilt both Rodney! Great color combo on the machine.
I know I've seen that same machine here under other brands before.

I know why it seems so familiar. There is an identical machine posted on the Vintage Sewing Machine Repair group on Yahoo. That one is branded as a Universal Deluxe. I know I've seen the Vs on those knobs here too.

Rodney,

I found a post that say these machines may be White #231 badged under several names. None of the cams that have fit this machine.
