We recently found a Minnesota A New Model A sewing machine and were wondering if anyone could tell us the approximate age. Serial number is 47756. Thank you.

There are Sears Catalogues from the early 20th century that have been reprinted. I know there are Minnesotas in some of them, but I don't remember the models. And FYI Sears got the machines from others, so Minnesota isn't the manufacturer. Welcome aboard. This is my Minnesota C. I assume your A uses a Vibrating shuttle under the bad.

pslaght: Welcome, I am not able to help with your question but looking at Leon's Picture, I love the foot pedal but am curious as what the round thing is above it.

We cleaned the machine up and gave it a good oiling. The only thing broken was the belt. I just ordered a new one. The wood is not in the best condition but I think we can get that cleaned up as well and then apply a stain. For some reason it is not letting me upload the pictures at all.

Round thing is the rheostat for the foot controller. pics have to be very small to be posted. You will need to cut and punch a hole in the belt for a staple.

Thank you for your help (especially with the pictures), here goes nothing. Again, I am really just trying to get an estimate on the date of manufacture. My research shows that it is probably made by Domestic as a knockoff to the Singer 127.

This New Minnesota A model was made from roughly 1913 to early 20's by Domestic. New Minnesota A by Davis made from 1909-1913. Later model Domestic New Minnesota A has Aug 10 1920 patent date on front slide. No Domestic dating records until mid 20's when they were bought out by White.

Jon There is no data plate on the machine. The only slide plate is under the needle and that's where we found the serial number. So you think it might be a Domestic model? |
