Mint 201-2 at thrift store!
Sooo excited I can hardly stand it! Just got a perfect '47 201-2 w/attachments, manual, in cabinet with bench all in absolute great condition for - are you ready? - $68.00! Thank you local thrift store and thanks to the previous owner who took such good care of the machine. This machine just purrs! I just love the sound of vintage Singers and this one is the best of all my collection. Didn't realize the feed dogs drop until I read the manual - Wow! Can't wait to quilt on it. Anyone else dream of their awesome machines or am I just a bit nuts? Just had to share my excitement!

Congrats! What a find!

congrats. sounds wonderful

The deal on my 201-2 wasn't quite that good, but I like it just as much. I agree, they just purr. They run smoothly and quietly. That's why it's called the Cadillac of Singer sewing machines.

Way to go! I keep wishin' and hopin".

Do you have a picture for us :- ) It was definitely a bargain, but regardless this is one of those models you never regret spending a bit of time and money on after it's done.
|
Congrats! The 201-2 was my first Singer and is still my favorite.

A well oiled 201 treadle is nearly silent, only hear the swish of the treadle belt. Here's a photo of my 1936 201k-4, was an original hand crank made in Kilbowie,Scotland. http://tinyurl.com/qgp6rp8

The 201-2 is a great machine to quilt on! I got the one I have for free, but it was missing the foot control and a slide plate. The electrical -- my son re-wired the electrical -- you could hear the wiring crumble when it was flexed -- so my son re-wired it -- Of course, he worked 14 years as a SM Mechanic, so he knew what he was doing. My machine -- whoever had it before me had removed the tensioner to clean and put the tensioner back in backwards, so it was brought to a Sewing Machine Shop that wouldn't work on the vintage machines. So, we replaced the foot control, the slide plate and my son rewired the motor, and it's my go-to machine for quilting. The decals on my machine are in almost-perfect condition. And, the 201 has the largest harp space of any machine I have.

what a beautiful machine! I would love to sew on a treadle. There's nothing like a well oiled machine.

don't know how to add a photo - too busy sewing to learn how!

You are going to love her. I have one and paid a bit more for mine without a sewing cabinet. I still love her. I then purchased the cabinet and unbe known to me it has a 306 in it. I can not wait to see how it is going to sew. I have to do some cleaning on it. I did get to try it out and it is just as nice as the 201-2.
Have fun with your new old machine. |
