Moldy/Mildew scent in Bentwood Base?
 

Is there any guaranteed way to get rid of a mildew/musty/moldy smell in/on a bentwood base? So far I've used murphy's oil soap, howard's feed n wax, a cotton ball dipped in lemon scented essential oil just laying in the compartment, coffee grounds in a cup sitting in the compartment. It just seems like I can smell the mildew etc underneath everything I am trying to mask it with.

On a warm day I would take it outside and let it sit in the sun for a while. Not all day, just for an hour or so and leave it open. I believe some people do that with fabric that has been in a damp area. Living in So. Cal. we have a very dry climate so having it open, it will dry out well and hopefully kill the mildew.

The Featherweight Shop has a great spray that took care of a nasty odor in my Featherweight case. Often those cases develop a moldy smell from oil drip pads under the machine which needs to be changed and the pan cleaned. I did the cleaning, but the spray worked wonders on the case. It probably can't hurt to use some of that spray on the interior of the case. I used a little on a Jones hand crank case that smelled bad, probably from a similar cause, and it worked beautifully.

I've used Shaklee Basic-G germicide (diluted in a spray bottle) to kill the moldy smell, let it soak in, apply more than once if needed, then I've followed that with Howards to lubricate the glue, again, apply more than once if it is soaking in right away. I've then followed up with Lush Twilight spray, let that soak in. The combo has worked for me.
