More of "WORK in PROGRESS" staining cabinet

I wanted to have the new veener look like the old finish as much as possible, so I looked closely at the finish that was already on the cabinet. Upon close observation, I noticed three different colors on the wood. Red, Yellow and Black.
I knew I would be unable to find a stain with those three colors in one can. So here is what I did.
Photo #1 I laid down a stain with red as it's base color. In this case Red Chesnut .I wiped off some after it penetrated the wood, but not all.
Photo #2... I the added a very dark color, Jacobean. Let it sit wipe it off.
Photo #3... I then added a third stain Special Walnut. Let it sit wipe it off.
This color looked pretty close to me . I'll let you decide in photo #4
H have re painted the cast iron base and soon I will re paint the gold?brass color bach on the logo.
I choose a color called Metalic Gold.

That is amazing! How do you cut the veneer? Do you make a template? Cut with a blade? Do you leave the veneer a little big and trim it after gluing? I've never done veneer, but I have a few treadle cases that could be restored if I am brave enough to try.

I put a piece of veneer over the entire top. Then I took my Dremel tool with a cut-off blade and trimmed as close as I could then changed to a round sanding disk to get closer then finished by hand sanding. BTW a cut- off blade is a small flat disk a little over 1inch in diameter and you mount it on a shaft, turn on the tool and let the blade do all the hard work. I overlapped the edges and sanded closer with round sanding disk and hand finished. My initial cuts for the whole sheet were make with my cutting mat, rotary cutter a long straight edge ruler. Cut everything oversized so you can trim later.

Looks like a great match.

I'd say that is very good match. You are very clever and seem to enjoy what you are doing. Great job.
