Cari,
The machines in cabinets have the controller wire passing through a hole in the spring loaded assist thingy. The wire is hard wired into the rear of the cord block. So just unplugging the plug won't do it.

Well, not all of them because I've never had one wired like that. But - the only Singers I've gotten in cabinets are my 201-2, a Rocketeer I sold and my 404. I suppose the 201 could have been hard wired originally, but I don't think the cabinet I got it in was original to the machine.

Wow. They took good care of it. I think it's good. I paid $150 for my 401. Manual attachments desk cabinet. Test drove with a piece of denim folded over repeatedly. Your machine and cabinet look great!!

Your machine looks great! By the time you've cleaned and oiled it, it will surely move freely. I got a Minnesota Model A head for my cousin and it was "frozen", but with a lot of Tri-Flo and some gentle heat from my hair dryer, we were able to loosen it and now it works great! I inherited a 201 -- my son found it and it was sitting in my garage for God only knows how long -- The needle bar was also "frozen" and we were able to get that one moving, too! You'll always be able to get help and instruction here on the QB!
