My 99k

4 Attachment(s)
I bought this from Goodwill Online back in November and haven't done anything with it yet. My DH is going to build me a wooden base for it, and I'll get it cleaned up after my cast comes off and I can use my left hand again. So, this came without hinges, which I'd like to get. Can I use any type of Singer hinges, or do I need special ones for this? Also, I believe it uses the 66 bobbins - can someone confirm that for me? The bobbin case is missing as well as the hinges. Can I get those from Sewingpartsonline, do you think?

Also, I'm thinking I should do the cleaning and oiling first and the lacquer cleanup last - does that make sense, or should I do the outside first?

Thanks so much for your help!

Any sewing machine hinge that fits in the hole will work. I love 99s. That one is just the same as my daughter's machine.
Measure carefully. IIRC Singer used some strange spacing for the hinges, at least when measured in inches. I'm used to imperial measurements stopping at say even 1/8" increments in woodworking. Singer didn't do that. Maybe it makes more sense in metric.

It looks to be in great shape. I am looking for a 99 myself lately, they are just so cute and a great size.

It uses barrel hinges rather than the flat ones, I've found. Ordered some from eBay.

I have really fallen for 99K's lately and they keep coming my way - I found a nice one at a thrift shop, then my MIL gave me a "distressed" one so now I have two! (Do I need two? No. Do I like having two? Yes I do!)

They're just so CUTE and so solid. Now that I've played with them they help me understand why people are so fond of FW's. Small plus well-made is a hard combo to pass up!
