my new Superba
 

hi all

I am looking for new needles for my superba. also, I have been looking to see how to adjust the tension, upper and lower, as the stitching is loose on the bobbin side. I ordered a new rubber wheel for the bobbin winder. Next is cleaning and oiling. Also, I cannot get it to tilt back. I have removed what I thought was the locking screw but it still wont budge.

ohhh loverly...... Those sew SO well. Really. It is a copy of the singer 12 mechanism but made as a high arm in germany. Think BMW but sewing machine. Singer did not go the high arm 12 route because at this time they were introducing the VS2 and IF machines and considered this tech "old"

That looks to be in very unused condition. well cared for. You are fortunate. With care that machine should work in another 100 years easily.

It looks to me like that large front right screw is the bed hold down. It will probably have to come completely out.

The boat shuttle will either have a tiny tension screw on the spring, or it will have a row of holes to weave it through to adjust tension. The later being the "oldest" of the old stuff, the screw and spring being the newer tech for boat shuttles (most likely on yours)

the top tension is adjusted by horizontally turning where the red arrow points.

It is connected by a flat bar to the tension disks where the blue arrow points

thanks.. I will reduce my pics tomorrow when I am on my pc. I removed that screw in front and it still would not flip up. Will look again tomorrow..

That is it, it's ruined..... You should just send it to me for parts... hehehe

It may have become bonded to the base by accumulated yuck, or since that base looks like it might have been refinished, the person may not have let the clear coat fully dry before they set the machine back (worse case scenario)

you could add oil along the seam to help soften/loosen it. Take your time, and remember that cast iron is brittle and does not like to flex.

LOL I found the problem. there were two rubber .. or I should say ex-rubber spacers that has basically melted . so I carefully worked it up and then removed most of the rubber. will do more later.. and I downloaded the singer 12 manual
