My newest machine: am I now a collector?

Well, here it is, the machine I bought today. I finally found one at a great price:

From what I've read, this machine is kind of rare. Not that many were made so I was really glad to find one. It came in a case (finally, a machine NOT in a cabinet) and with all kinds of parts and attachments from another Bernina 117 (an entire plastic bin filled with parts such as gears, a complete bobbin winder assembly, and all kinds of other parts all in plastic baggies), an entire bag of presser feet and bobbins, the zig-zag plate, the manual copied and put into a folder with each page in a plastic sheath, etc.

The machine itself is in really great condition. I haven't sewn with it yet (I've only owned it for a few hours) but will do so tomorrow.

Sometimes when I buy these machines, I ask myself why. The last thing I need is another zig-zag. I guess I'm a collector. It feels strange.

Does it remind you of another machine? Yep, same here:

Anyway, there it is -- I finally found one.

Ok - maybe I won't call you a "collector" for buying it, if that makes you feel better. However that's a much nicer name that what I'd call you if you had passed that one up!!!

I really do live in the wrong area

I thinks its a great machine. Looks tough. Don't know if you are a collector or not. I was called a hoarder today. by my son. He helped me move everthing out of my sewing room so I can finally get rid of the carpet. (and paint while it is empty.) He asked how many machines did I have and was it really necessary? I only have 4 in my room. Embroidery, serger, zigzag, and my straight stitch I keep set up for fmq. well actually 5, forgot about my little brother i take to class. I guess its a good thing I didn't tell him about the 3 in the shed and one at my sisters. Or the one I'm looking at on ebay.

I have a lot of vintage Berninas, but not that model. You'll have to report back on how you like it.

KRA I thought you were a collector well before you bought that machine. :)

It's easy to justify the necessity of the first 3 or 4 machines because of different functions you can have each machine perform but after that "necessary" kind of flies out the window.
I think the world would be a far more boring and sad place to be if we only did what was necessary. 8 or 9 machines is only the tip of the iceberg. I think between my daughter and I, we have around 20 machines at the moment and I consider myself strictly small time when it comes to collections.

Ditto. But now I think of you as a collector with excellent taste! I don't have one of those but I've recently had to admit to myself that I haven't even sewn with the last 5-6 machines I've brought into the house! I'm either crazy or a collector. I'll have to admit I collect. I love them. They're so cool.

Collector or not, you found a very nice one. Congrats.
