I bought a Boye cabinet similar to yours with the wood base but with the newer system numbering. It has both 2-1/2 and 20-1/2 spots on the tin. Hopefully it arrives safely from your neck of the woods, South Dakota.
Jon I really don't want four of them - won't have any room to display them all anyway. Just the oldest and newest that I have. I'm so looking forward to getting things more organized over the winter. But I'll have to STOP buying more stuff as it does not good to add space and more stuff at the same time. |
That looks fantastic! on my list as well...
The other issue is that it is not uncommon for the needles in the tubes to NOT be the ones they are supposed to be. |
The one at Bull'sEye was still there - it's not now LOL!! So when I get home I'll share pictures of #5. This is one of the latest styles, it has white sides and a lot of blue on the top. No pictures of shuttles either. It is setting on a wood box like my oldest one, but the drawer had compartments for sewing needle storage.
Steve - that is so true! I think people take off the caps and are not careful to replace them on the tube they came off. I've gone through all in my one set to make sure they are correct. |
Cathy,
My Boye cabinet arrived today in good shape. It was shipped from Britton, SD. I was excited to find some old style numbered tubes mixed in with the new style. I got close to 40 Davis Long tubes----Woo Hoo! Jon |
here is the one I picked up today. I first saw this one at this antique shop back in June, and have debated about buying it since. I got them to come down a bit on price.

woah.... that looks dang near brand new! I love the brass trim. Too cool! Congrats

Great finds Cathy!! They both have so much info on them - not only interesting and unusual items but also good resources!
|
Beautiful, looks like you have near the complete evolution of Boye tin commodity cabinets.
Jon |
I'm so envious of all your cases!
|
The "crown" would be to get a "twin" model.
