My Sewmor is up and running

Finally decided to get her up and running last night. She is currently sitting in an empty Kenmore cabinet that my DD found for me at a garage sale. The cabinet hinges were broken so I am using some big gutter nails to support her in the cabinet until I find something that will work better.
I have named her Shirley Sewmor. I posted pics when I bought her and Billy said it was a 15 clone. But I have been unable to find the make or model of machine she was cloned from. Her badge says Sewmor 606 made in Japan. I don't think she is a Singer clone because of her molded metal faceplate and the topline of the machine. Is it possible she is a Brother or Necchi clone? I sure would like to know so I can find a manual for her. She sew so smooth and quietly AFTER I figured out the threading pattern and the stitch regulator. Notice the back plate? It shines like a mirror and you can see the reflection of my camera taking the picture. BTW, I paid $18.00 for her at Goodwill and the cabinet cost my DD $5.00. |
You did a great job of cleaning her up. She's beautiful!

Actually Sandra I have not cleaned her up. All I did was to give her a drink of oil and some grease in the motor. I was going to polish her with some auto polish but could not find any in DH's side of the garage, which is a cluttered mess (drives me nuts!!!).

what a great looking machine - she does have a profile similar to a Necchi, doesn't seem to take after any Singers that I know of.

I am beginning she is a multi faceted clone. From the pictures of your machines, she looks like the Brother Admiral and the Necchi, but has the feeddogs drop dial like Cathy's 606. Thanks for the manual Cathy. I know it will help me.

My Universal is a twin to a White my mother purchased in the mid 50s. That fits with the timeline in which White stopped manufacturing machines and became a distributor. The Japanese factories that had manufactured for White renamed the machines and kept going. The Koyo factory is the one who did this one as far as I can find out. Did they do my mother's as a White and mine a few months later as a Universal??? White had more than one factory which explains both the similarities and the difference.

I have 2 Japanese clones and neither are Singer clones. Both, according to some knowledgable people, are White clones. It may be your Shirley Sewmor is a White clone.

did a little random research on the sewmor--apparently it was made in japan starting after wwii, from parts from asia (japan, indonesia, etc.) and was a "badged" machine, authorized to be made. found one that looks similar to yours (http://singeroriginalvintageproducts...INFORSALE.aspx). they seem to be in decent supply. (the one to which i referred, reputed to be mfg. by white is mine--originally purchased in 1968, as a gift to me from hubby, on the occasion of our first daughter's impending birth. i still use it. got to love the metal construction of those machines!) there are instruction manuals available, and many for sale on various sites. yours is a beauty! (my 1968 is "modern" in appearance--white and light seafoam green colors, snap on cover, made of pressboard.)
