It came! It came! My Singer 201-2 sewing machine is finally here. It's black and shiny, and weights 40 lbs, and it was all in one piece, and I got a bunch of goodies with it, and it fits in the cabnet the 15-91 Singer was in ( the one that had major electric issues but thats okay because I only paid $20 for it and I will get it fixed later), and sews PERFECT seams, and its the quiest machine I have ever heard and...................oh sorry I had to take a breath finally. Now I just need to get that free motion quilting attatchment foot and I can finally quilt all of the quilt tops that I have been making. I have four tops ready to quilt. I'm so excited. I tend to name all of sewing machines once they show me their personalitys, but DH just wants to name it "Last one", as in this is the last one I am going to buy, ever. Isn't he silly?

Congratulations, you are on a roll now.

Tell hubby you are helping the economy and now you have more sewing machines to be creative.

Woo Hoo!! Congratulations!! :D:D:D
Yes, DH is rather silly... We can't have these machines running around homeless!!

Okay to be fare, this is my 13th sewing machine. So I really do intend for this one to be my last. I have a great collection of vintage Singers, but I am running out of room for them all, and DH is getting tired of carrying them upstairs to my sewing room.

Only the 13th and the last??? Right

Stitchnripper 02-04-2011 05:22 PM

I am in awe of your collection!

...congratulations and I will try not to turn  green with envy. :)

I'm looking for a 201 (but I'm not sure where I will put it). Once I get that one, I can name it "Last One" because it is the last vintage I have on my list. (I already have the 301, featherweights, 401s, 99, 66, and model 15 treadle.)

I loved hearing what you had to say about it being so quiet. Seriously (and all kidding aside) I'm happy that your new baby arrived today. Enjoy!

This was the last one of the Singers that I wanted to collect. I have been looking for 5 months for this one.

Congrats on your new baby. Sounds wonderful.

Congratulations on your 201-2!!! That is the "last one" on my list, too ;-) ....hahaha!! Not sure where I will be putting it and it will need a cabinet of course

Do you have pictures of your new baby, yet? Can't wait to see them!

congrats! I just got a 503a and am in love with her. I woke up at like 3:30 in the morning the night I got her with the name Liza Jane in my head....so Liza Jane she is! She replaces my newest (agewise) machine which was a 12yo kenmore that the computer died in. I am going to try fmq on her as soon as I get a foot but it may be a couple weeks before that happens......:-(

I found one, yesterday, on Craigslist and after roaming the internet for information on how to clean the bobbin area I found a great site with wonderful instructions & pictures showing how to care for the 201. I have the original manual that came with mine but I'm having a hard time seeing the pictures clearly.

This site also has wonderful information for the Singer 66, 99 and 15k:

Thanks Cathy for the information. Mine came with the manuel too but like you, I was having trouble seeing it.

Yeah, that Tools for Self Reliance site is amazing. It's the most thorough instructions for resoration of the 66, 99, 201 and 15 that I've found. Extremely helpful.

I found a 201 about a month ago and have it all cleaned up and running nicely. I was happy, even tho the head is not in great cosmetic condition. Most of the clear coat is gone, and also some paint loss and most of the bed decals are gone. It has some rust in the areas that have lost paint. The light is covered with peck marks that I can only think came from the point of some scissors hitting it repeatedly on the upswing to clip threads.

This week I have found another machine that I'm going to see tomorrow. When they sent pics, it was another 201! In fact, made in the same year and run as the one I have now. But this one is in vastly better cosmetic condition. It looks mint. I can't resist... I figure I can always give the first one away to someone who can't afford a good machine. Or if I teach lessons, it will be here to use.
