Mystery Singer treadle machine
 

I bought this treadle machine yesterday. It has Singer branding and was in a #5 cabinet. The serial number (W47554) was (1) on the backside of the machine (2) not located in the Singer database, and (3) when I called Singer the nice lady could not find the number after searching for 20 minutes. I think it is a 15-30 because of the shape and the tension unit on the side plate, but am no expert. If anyone can help identify the model and approximate age, it would be greatly appreciated!

I am having some difficulty with Quilting Board this evening. I see that Cari has responded, but can not read it - even after refreshing. I'm going to guess that she told you that you have a 9W Singer which is a Wheeler & Wilson W9. I can't remember the exact year that Singer bought out Wheeler & Wilson, but believe it was 1906.

one can see how much it is like the Wheeler Wilson.

They are sought after machines, I think Singer made the 9W models a few years after they bought up the W&W facotory. 9W where only made at this factory, and was exactly the same as the W&W model. They turn up now and then on forums like this, but aren't that common at all. I have yet to spot one, but I know a few found it's way over the Atlanic ocean. I hope you can make it stitch again, the rotary mechanism is suppose to be smooth and light running. There were a W&W model twelve too, and I read some where Singer's 115 was an attempt to adopt the advantages of the popular 9W in to their own designs.
