Necchi BU Nova
 

I purchased a Necchi BU Nova that I thought I could fix up and use. It seemed mostly in good condition, just needing a belt replaced, and the lead cord replaced, but as I got into it, it seems more of the wiring should be replaced and I am nervous about doing it myself. I am wondering if there is anyone in the Wichita, Kansas or St. Louis, Missouri area (moving to this area in about 6 months) that would consider helping me? Or any businesses that are recommended?

The older (late 40s to mid 50s) Necchi machines seem to have a wire insulation aging issue. Oddly, Necchi didn't manufacture the motor or the wire used, it was contracted out. Is your machine a cabinet model or a portable? - and, what part of the wiring are you questioning. (The motor leads, pedal leads, wire to light... etc). It would be helpful to know.

The techs at A-1 Sewing center in Parklane center in Wichita seem to be knowledgable. I haven't had any service done by them.

It is a cabinet with a knee lever, so part of it is attached to the cabinet. I was able to find the power lead and when I went to replace it some of the other leads started falling apart. And the leads to the light were not attached at all, so I am not sure which positions they would go. Attaching pictures to hopefully help. The image with the 2 black leads are to the light. the image with the white taped leads, the white leads go to the box in the next image, which goes to the knee lever. and the power cord is not currently attached to the machine, so I don't know which positions they would attach either.

Hey Red, you ready for this? Okay, here we go... first off, the end of the Necchi power cable will only go on one way. It has these little curved indentations to make sure that it goes on one way. Thoughtful huh? =) So no need to worry about that! Yeah!

^ Here's a picture with an inset. The inset shows the end of the power cord. The rest of the photo is for your visual reference. This is how my Necchi has it's wiring block mounted to the machine. If yours is mounted differently... you'll need to take that into consideration. I can only show you what I have - and what I have works.

^ this picture shows the back of my wiring block. If you look really close there are two numbers stamped into the plastic. There's a number one, and a number three. As I describe the way mine is wired I identify the 'number one' post as being to the left of the stamped number one, and the number three post to the right of the stamped number three. (I am going on the assumption that the post in the middle is number two - even though there isn't a number indicating such.)

Now, with all of those considerations in place (perspective and mounting angle) here is a drawing showing which posts the wires on my Necchi are attached. Do note that is not important which of the two light leads go to post one or to post two - just that one goes to post one and one goes to post two! If the wires that are still attached to your wiring block are identical in their position in comparison to the ones on my machine... then this should be the answer for where your light leads go. If the leads on your machine are not on the same posts as the drawing, this is not your answer.

*I've never seen more than two wires per post - but I haven't seen everything. =)
