Need help with Manhattan treadle
Stopped it local thrift store today and found an old treadle machine. It is a little rough but seems to turn smoothly and has shuttle bobbin. I could not find any manufacturer names on machine, but did find serial number K100499 on bobbin plate. The hinged wooden lid had the name Manhattan engraved on it. Any info or links of finding more info would be greatly appreciated.

A picture would be helpful. There were several manufactures that made machines with many different "names" on them, but usually one can tell by the basic style who the manufacture was. The legs of the treadle base often give a clue also.

Does the head look similar to this Manhattan HC ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161154923922...84.m1438.l2649 Sounds like a Davis model K from c 1905. Ebay Davis is a Model N which followed the K. Jon |
I am picking it up tomorrow and will try to post tomorrow. thanks

here are pics of the manhattan, it appears that someone did a bad job of trying to refinish as the veneer has been peeled up on table top and the graphics are missing in places. I love the simplicity of the treadle metal. So, is it a Davis? Any info appreciated

Yes it is a Davis and will take a Davis long needle or Boye 10. You can also use a 15x1 and cheat it down in the needle clamp until it picks up the bobbin thread. I have several Davis machines and love to sew with them.

Hi,
Davis model K from very early 1900's. An early version of the Sears Minnesota D is a model K and found in pre 1906 catalogs. I've noted a dated machine K121570 or about 21000 machines later than yours with a 10-15-1906 Warranty. Uses Boye 10 or industrial MTx190 needles. Fun machine to use. Jon |
wish I had room for a treadle machine. I love them

I like the top on that treadle. It looks like it’s been shortened on each end by fire. I mean, by actually being put into a fire! Cool!
Edited to add: "Drawers? We don't need no stinking drawers!" CD in Oklahoma |
The side edges have carved leaves along the top.
