need to replace treadle belt and other misc. repairs
 

i bought a New Home treadle last year. i haven't used her as her belt slips. i think she needs a new one.
she is also in a cabinet that closes down to look like a small hutch and has a wooden bottom. the veneer on the bottom is lifting off, looks like she sat in some water perhaps?
where can i get new belting? and any suggestions for repairing the bottom. Right now if you don't carry her from the bottom, it droops

Belts can be had from Sew-Classic and many other places. Many times your LSMG will have them too.
It could be your belt is stretched. Try cutting off a 1/4" or so and see if that helps. Also oiling the treadle mechanism and machine helps reduce friction and that helps prevent belt slippage.

If the bottom of the cabinet droops when you pick it up, you'll need to remove the head and turn it upside down and re-glue it. Been there and done that with my Franklin parlor cabinet.

My method of reattaching veneer is to use a plastic credit card or a hacksaw blade to work glue between the veneer and base wood. Then I clamp or weight it so it stays till the glue is dried. I use Elmer's Wood Glue Max.

If your cabinet has sat in water you might need to re-glue the base wood too. The old glues don't hold up well when they got wet.

I bought a belt from my machine repairman. They also have them on E-bay..

Since I couldn't find a belt locally and didn't want to wait for one to be ordered and delivered I tried aquarium tubing and it works fine.
There has been a need to shorten the tube twice but I suspect it will finish stretching one day. LOL
DH dreads my call when I have been sewing and the belt hops off the wheel.
