need your advise! sewing machines in cabinets or alone...
 

I have a question for you all ... I have decided that I am going to part with some of my sewing machines, here is the question I have, should I list them in the cabinets that they came in or remove them and then list them.. shipping in a cabinet is by far the worst.. I would gladly take them out and ship just the machine if that is all the person wants. I could always offer local pick up as well.. not sure.. If I want my longarm, I need to remove the old machines that I am not using... I think that is a fair trade...

What machines are you selling? I would try Craig's List unless you really want to keep the cabinets. I had a posting for sme Vintage crocheted items & had someone respond who live 2 streets over from me. She ended up purchasing a quilt as well.

well, I will know more saturday, I am gonna drag them all out side and look at my inventory.... alot...

Don't forget you can sell them on the Board- just read the rules.

Heads only might be easier to ship, but they will need cases or cabinets. I have had my fill of buying machine heads without homes. If I have a machine that is in a cabinet, that is how I sell it. Same with cases. Local sales preferred but I'll meet up with or deliver a cabinet to an address within a half tank of gas for the price of the gas. Usually comes out to the same price as shipping.

In some places cases and cabinets without machines might be easy to come by, but not here.

I try really hard to keep originals together. If it is a mix match machine, I don't care so much.

You may want to do a phased sales approach.

1. Sell locally as unit
2. Sell EBay (make em pay for shipping)
3. Sell separately.

I offered a machine and cabinet on CL as a "buy both, or either" on the machine and cabinet, I got a person who came over and bought the cabinet.... ya never know.

I think I have tto buy some travel insurance and go to PA ---Oh does she have a 201 ???? Oh Oh hubby just said we don't have room otherwise I could get one. My new little Handcrank 99k took the last space.
Only want to buy if they come in case / cabinet that they belong in --not 2 separately. Would do pick up if not over a 6 hr drive. Cost of staying overnight makes machine cost too much. Won't risk shipping from all the problems I've seen on the board.

Locally, it might sell better in the cabinet. On ebay, probably sell the head. I sold a surprising amount of Singer cabinets that had removable legs, on ebay. I got empty push lawnmower boxes from Lowes, Home Depot, out of people's yards on trash day, used those for shipping boxes. Take the legs off the cabinet (easy), wrapped everything for protection and boxed & shipped it. You can buy boxes online from U-Line or if you are in an urban area there is probably a place that sells boxes. Pipe wrap and flat sheets of styrofoam wall insulation and other stuff like that, that you can get at Lowes and HD are less costly than bubblewrap. But you have to buy it in prepackaged amounts, but if you are selling multiple machines then you will have a use for it.

You can sell the cabinets separately. I have one listed on ebay now that is pickup only if you want the cabinet but I will ship without it. I just sold a cabinet a few weeks ago The cabinets will sell separately. Just don't price the cabinet too high. In the future though, I think I will just sell the portables. They're easier to ship and no worries about an empty cabinet.
