needle position on 1960 Capital 600
 

I have a Capital 600 that I bought at a thrift shop. After a very small amount of oiling and cleaning and trip to the repair shop for a checkup, it is working perfectly. My question is -------the needle is not centered in the presser foot when doing a regular straight stitch. It is situated towards the left side of the foot. Even though this machine zig zags the needle is not able to be repositioned for straight line sewing. Is this justpart of owning a vintage machine or is there something amiss here.

Your machine is what is know as a left homing machine. The needle position is as it was built. I have a few of these machines... not my favorites for piecing but sew a nice stitch.

Can you post a pic of the machine? Tom is right about it being a left needle machine, I'm just curious as to what it looks like. Capital is a badge that Brother used and I'd love to see it.

If it's a low shank machine, Sew-Classic and other places sell Left Homing straight stitch feet. As long as you leave the ZZ needle plate in you can use most any ZZ compatible feet and accessories on them.

thanks everyone. I believe this machine would sew through dry wall if I could get it under the foot. I just love sewing on it. I can take the master cam out and position the needle any where I would like. However, the needle is easily dislodged. trying to get a picture sent but, as usual, I am having problems. I wanted to be able to reposition the needle for piecing quilts. It is so much easier if your 1/4 inch seam can be measured against the edge of the presser foot. I will certainly try Sew- Classic
