Needle size reference chart? Anywhere?
I have some 26 x 198 needles and I'd like to know what machine they are for. I have some other weird needles, too, but my house seems to have eaten them. I'm doing spring cleaning/ Swedish Death Cleaning so I'll find them eventually.

I couldn't find that number on http://ismacs.net/needle_and_shank/p...eedle-list.pdf Are there any other numbers or names on the package?

I've heard of 16x198. They are for Singer 78-1 and 78-3. Don't toss the old needles. :)

There is a Boye needle and shuttle bobbin case dispenser that was used in the old days at sewing shops
to sell needles and bobbin cases for vibrating shuttle machines. They look like a little cake pan with a chart and scale on top with a rotating dial. All of the bobbin cases and needles were shown on top with a rotating dial that you used to select your machine and then it told you what needle and bobbin case it took. These are very hard to find and supper expensive if you can find one. There are a couple out on Bonanza and ebay now if you want to see what they look like. They were kind of the bible for the old shuttle machines. Looking on top at the needles you can see that the sizes started below 16 and went to 20, 26 and beyond. This dispenser with the dial would show you any machine that took these needles. I would really like to have one but they usually want hundreds to buy one. |

If you look at the pdf I linked to and will find there were a lot of sewing machine needles manufactures or suppliers and each used a different numbering system for the same needle. Some even used letters. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
