needles, i need needles, lots and lots of needles

My main machine at this time is a Bernina 200 for embroidery. It replaced a Pfaff 360 that my then husband bought for me in 1963. Our Mother passed and I was looking for her treadle, my sister has it. (snarl) So my daughter (who has the Pfaff and will not part with it) found a treadle called "La Reine" on the machine, but on the treadle itself if says "Improved". [Just had a thought, maybe the machine and the cabinet do not belong together.] Oh, Well, I do not care about that. I bought this machine, it has a long bobbin and sews like a dream. Have discovered that it takes "Davis long needles". Have searched but cannot find on the 'net. One article said that a Boye #10 would work and it might if I could find it.
Does anyone know where I could find this needle size? My machine guy suggested that the thing that holds the needles could be adjusted for today's modern shorter needles.
p.s. Sorry this is so rambling, you can tell I live alone and have no one to talk to but The Cat.

I found mine on ebay. Skip (Glenn) just doesn't insert the needle as far into the holder. Jon tells us there is a modern industrial needle, MTX 190(?) that will work in our Davis machines.
I wanna see pictures!! :)

I have a Minnesota Model ~B~ that uses the Davis Long Needle or the Boye #10. I broke my one and only original needle and have not found a single replacement yet. I did buy some MTx190 needles from forum member Mizkaki and they do work. The MTx190 is a round shank needle and you have to be precise in alining the eye and scarf but so far, no problem.

LOVE my OLD Pfaff

I grew up using my Moms Pfaff 360 and bought a 362 for 150.00 from my local sewing store when my 260's internal belt went south. Have you tried talking to the Industrial folks out there to see if they have any needles to fit your machine. You can get needles like 100 for 16.00 and bobbins by the 100 far cheaper for your machine. I live a lone with my Dog ! :)

Jon can answer questions about Davis long needles...jlmf something....send him a P.M. Also, go on eBay and search Boye 10 needle and besides knitting needles you will maybe come up with a supplier of the Davis long needles. I have bought a bunch after doing that search. I do it occasionally to find more.

I do not know if this is any help.

have an older Bernina Machine. What needle should I use?
That depends on what you mean by "older"! If your Bernina household machine model number begins with the digits 5, 6, 7, or 8 (Bernina 500, 600, 700 or 800 series machines) or the model 900, you should use System 705B needles, as your machine was manufactured, timed and developed to work optimally with that needle system. Using a system 705H needle will not harm your machine, but it may be more prone to skipping stitches, and it may produce less-than-optimum stitch quality. Any Bernina household model starting with the digit 9 (except model 900), 1, or 2, models 630, 640 and the new model 730 introduced in 2006, all utilize the system 705H needle system. If your local dealer can't / won't supply you with system 705B needles, please call us at (800) 739-8221 to order them directly from us.

Grannyjlb,

What is the difference between the 705B and the 705H ?

Charlee,

Please forgive the shameless self promotion but here is a picture comparison of the original Davis Long or Boye 10 and the MTx190. I recommend the Boye 10 if 3 needles will last a lifetime and the MTx190 when the machine is used frequently.

Jon,

I would be interested in some of those MTx190 size 14 needles. Unfortunately I don't do eBay. No PayPal, and trying to find out if the seller will take other forms of payment is a pain in the butt.

I've got some size 12 MTx190s and they work OK, I want to try some 14s and 16s in it.

My only original needle got ..... busted. I have it taped on a piece of cardboard as a measurement item.

No need to ask for forgiveness from me! :) (Not my board or thread! :) ) As far as I'm concerned, anything that helps members is ok in my book!!
