New baby

I feel so happy today with a new baby I purchased from an acquaintance. It was a great bargain in the cabinet, with the stool, and the stool was full of treasures. I have spent 2 hours tonight cleaning her up, taking her apart and giving her a good servicing. She looked in good shape and clean...fooled me. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. She is a beautiful 301a now. I am going to love sewing on Catherine (named after the original owner, mother of the friend). Pictures were before the cleanup. I feel like I got my $50.00 worth. The stitches are after she was serviced, pink on top, white in bobbin. Tomorrow is my 43rd anniversary to a husband that puts up with all my machines and sewing stash....so it seemed like it must have been meant for me. Whoooopppeee! I think he got off pretty cheap.

Good deal! It does look like she had a few dust bunnies before you got to her.

O.M.G! I actually gasped when I saw that first picture of lint...and then the next two! Holy Moley! That said, the stitches are perfect, aren't they? I think you got a very good deal.

Stunning mocah 301. She will serve you well. The cabinet is nice and the stool is the price. Not many come with the stool.

That's great, good for you :)

Great buy!! It's not too often that you find a cabinet with a matching stool AND a good machine.

nanna-up-north 05-15-2013 04:44 AM

You did good, girl. That stool is worth the $50 you paid. They are getting hard to find. The machine brings back memories for me..... taught sewing in a middle school with about 25 of those..... I could take them apart and fix just about anything. I'd sure like to find one of those for myself..... they took the abuse of many a middle schooler and kept going. That's saying something.

Those are awesome machines. At least you know she was used.

I sure don't find bargains like that here!

I have been looking for one reasonable for about 4 years. My husband did not even fuss because he knew i wanted one for quite sometime. I sewed some scraps together tonight and she is a joy to use.

I think a mouse lived in there.

Looks just like the sewing machine my mother had. You really got a good deal. Can't believe someone would use a machine so much and not clean it.

I have a mocha 301 in a similar cabinet that I also paid $50 for. The drawer is the same but the legs are a round turned design. I did not get a stool, but I got a 3-drawer sewing cabinet. The little cabinet does not match the cabinet the 301 is in but it matches the cabinet my Mom's 401 is in. THAT cabinet originally held my Grandmother's 66-6 (which I have) and was purchased in 1928, the year my Mom was born. You will like the 301, I have 3 of them now.

I am already loving this little baby. Why do friends and family always ask "how many do you have now?" I do have too many. It really does not matter and it would take fingers and a few toes to count them up. I am In love with this 301. Was just meant to be. I am glad some of you understand my love for sewing machines. ;)

I love my 301's for some reason too. I also have more than enough machines. But, there are so many GREAT machines out there that there is always a new category that becomes a "want" and I start searching. I totally understand and support your love of sewing machines. You got a great deal on your new machine. Congratulations!

That is a great machine. I got one 6 months ago that is exactly like yours but in a different cabinet and it has quickly become my favourite machine. I love that I can just pick it up and take it out of the cabinet for quilting class. I understand your love of sewing machine. I have 6 old machines and I only started to quilt 2 years ago! Enjoy sewing on it.

I love my 301, far above the FW. It is not as finicky. You will enjoy sewing so much. Good Luck.
