New challenge Singer 306

I purchased a Rocketeer back in November, but could't pick it up. A VSM friend snagged it for me.
Finally Saturday I drover her way and she made the hand off. Plus. She also gave me a 306.

What a puzzle it is. Singer's first ZZ machine. Many of the parts look unlike Singers previously or since. Many aspects of it feel German. Some of the ZZ linkage runs on the outside of the body along the back.
It uses fashion discs on the side. But very importantly, it came with a bobbin case, bobbin and needle.

I opened it up, oiled it up, started the clean up. liberated the bobbin from the nest, pulled off the motor with bad wiring and belt. GF threaded it and I hand turned the balance wheel. Tension was perfect for straight stitching and ZZs. I discovered it had an aluminum body.. Way coot.

And since I now have bobbin bits. I can finally try out the 319 that bkay sent my way, and the other 306 I've been walking around.

I m seriously considering swapping balance wheels and adding a handcrank to take it to our demos so more experienced sewists can play more.

I'll pull out my how-longer and see what I can find out... in any case it may let the 319 live again as a motorized machine. I've been in parades in the rain before.

Miriam, is of course, correct. I didn't need my how longer to see that the boss is offset and doesn't line up with the balance wheel on the 319..
