New Domestic

I have an older version of this machine already, and when looking through manuals discovered there was a model that took an adapter for chain stitch. I was considering trying to covert my older one, but in the end I found this machine- and it's already set up for it.

Although SteveH hates this stuff, the machine was securely packed. I had to remove some packing material to get to this point.

And the manual showing the adapter - I've managed to get two of these so far . . . one deliberaly and the other showed up a "lot" of misc stuff.

I got a great Kenmore that does a chain stitch and a so-so Singer T&S and other than play with it to see how it works I've never used it.

Nice machine though and I don't hate anything that keeps them from getting damaged in shipment.

Whatcha gonna use the chain stitch for?

Have no idea what I'll use if for, if anything other than to prove it works. I'm addicted to chain stitch machines.

I've got a kenmore, Domestic, Standard (slim and stout) that are all "convertable" and then true chainstitchers, Singer 24, Wilcox & Gibbs (2 of them also) and a National.

I've come across some info that there may have been a chainstitch adapter for a Wheeler Wilson 9 too . . .

Very neat. I assume the "New Domestic" is made by Domestic? Does this machine used the "notched top" needles (Boye 8, 1x4)? Happy tinkering.

Yes, this is a Domestic before White got them. It's "new" because the earlier version was called "Domestic". Exterior wise, they look very similar, though my Domestic is the really older version so the guide for the bobbin winder is your hand.

It takes the same needles and shuttle as the older one, so yes, top notch Boye 8. It also takes all the same attachments, and I've got a lot of Domestic attachments.
