New Mansion Treadle
 

Hello everyone, I'm a new member. I've been reading through some threads and I amazed at how knowledgeable and helpful people are. I'm hoping that someone could help me identify my New Mansion treadle machine. I am a complete novice with antiques. I sew and have basic electric machines: a Kenmore and a Singer. I bought a Singer Red Eye that has an electric motor and love it and went hunting for a treadle machine to try my hand--er feet, at. I picked up this New Mansion for $30, but cannot find any information for it so I can clean/oil/get started. I am hoping someone here can direct me. Thanks in advance.

It looks like your machine was made by Davis Sewing Machine Co. and would take a Davis long needle or Boye # 10 Look up Davis and you will find a manual.

Does it have a needle diagram on the front slide? If so, that is the size needle it takes and it's going to be the common size (not the long). Later Davis machines were made to take the short "Singer" size needles. It will take teh Davis shuttles though.

Because you say you are a novice, I will offer some hints. Your pretty machine is a vibrating shuttle machine.
If you pull the slide closest to you and turn the hand wheel, your shuttle /bobbin assembly should make an appearance. The button at the left front of the pillar is a latch release. Push it down and you should be able to tilt the machine back to access the under areas to oil moving bits.

Thank you so much everyone! I will admit to being intimidated by this machine. I'm not even sure why I had my heart set on a treadle machine. Perhaps because they are so beautiful and I adore sewing?! I really don't understand the irresistible draw, but I had to indulge.

My machine did come with a manual, but I was afraid to page through it and need to get it scanned or copied and read through those.

I also have a little box of attachments and a second manual for them that also needs to be scanned/copied.

Thank you! That does look helpful. I've been dashing back and forth between my sewing room (where the computer is) and the garage to the machine. I need to just bring the machine inside.
