"New" old Singer Sewing Machine
Daughter and SIL gave me a wonderful Class 201 1938 Singer with electric motor and light. I am in need of a few parts - screw in thread holder for top of machine and the left side cover plate (covers the bobbin). Does a class 66 bobbin work? It purrs like a kitten and I'd love to start sewing on it. Any recommendations for these replacement parts?

Class 66 bobbins along with regular 15x1 needles are correct. I'm not sure if model 66 slide plates work. They're available as reproductions. Sew-Classic.com should have them along with good quality bobbins. Jenny at Sew-Classic has a great reputation here and should know if the slide plates fit your machine.
New Singer branded bobbins that are available at chains like Joann's and Walmart are narrow at the rim and while they work in the machine just fine, they don't always work with vintage bobbin winders. Congrats on your new machine! Rodney |
Stitchesintime.com Cindy Peters sells reproduction parts. Keep in mind, the reproduction parts often don't match the silver plating of the original. Try eBay for original parts. You will love this machine!

I got my slide plate and needle plate for my 201-2 from Sew Classic. They don't match, one is shiny and one is not, but it's what she had available at the time and I didn't want to wait.
