"New" Sewing Stool
 

I just picked this up at one of the local thrift stores today. I think it's a Singer stool. It's walnut and the lid off my other stool fits it perfectly. It's also covered with the same naugahyde as my other stool.
I want to know roughly when it was made and what cabinet it went with. Also, is there a source for that sort of info out there? The machines seem to get more attention than the cabinets they come in.

No idea when but it looks well padded and in really good shape.

I don't know when it was made, but it goes with the number 42 cabinet.

It looks just like the stool that came with the cabinet that came with my 301A. However, yours has the dark finish and mine has the blond finish. (I prefer yours!) Here is the picture of my cabinet and stool that the seller put in the ad. Although it is hard to tell by the picture, there is naugahyde on the edge of my stool but it is a tan color rather than black like yours. The lady had re-covered the lid part in a red fabric.

The cabinet I bought is a No. 65 cabinet. It could house these machines:[h=3]15-90's. 15-91's, 66-16's, 201-2's, 201-3's and 301-1's[/h]The ISMACS site shows a slightly different stool with the 65 cabinet than what came with mine. The site shows that the stool has a bit of a cutout at the bottom of both sides where it meets the floor. My stool does not have those cutouts but I clearly bought it along with the #65 cabinet.

The No. 42 cabinet shows a stool that more closely resembles the stool you and I have. The #42 cabinet could house these machines:

The stool for your cabinet has straight sides, like the sides of your cabinet. The stool you have is indeed for a number 42 cabinet.

A lot of these cabinets were made in both dark and light finishes.

Oh, yeah Mark. You are right. The #65 stool is different in two ways - I didn't notice the detail that you pointed out. Thanks.

Thanks everyone. The ISMACS link was really helpful. My 66 is in cabinet 56 and my daughter's 101 is in cabinet 40. I wouldn't mind finding cabinet 42 to go with my stool. I like art deco and there's plenty of that style in the cabinet plus more storage than in the cabinets we currently have. There is another cabinet 42 stool at a different thrift store in town. That one is the pickled oak finish like JudyTheSewer's example. I've passed on it so far because my other cabinets are walnut though the 56 cabinet has a coat of paint on it right now.

Yes, it's a Singer stool. However that is not the cabinet it goes with.

This is the cabinet the stool with the round corners goes with. The cabinet has the exact same rounded corners that match the stool

I'm at work so can't run upstairs and take a picture of the stool that goes with the square sided desk cabinet. On that one, the stool as the exact same square corners that match the desk.

Funny thing about stools - often they can cost the same or MORE than getting a cabinet with a machine in it. I've paid as much as $60 to get the correct stool for a cabinet I picked up for $30 with a machine in it LOL!!

Along with collecting Singer machines, I also collected Singer cabinets, and it's no good having a cabinet without the correct stool to go with it. I'm still looking for the trapezoid cabinet - I already have the stool for it though.

Yup, I have that exact same cabinet and stool with a 15-91 in it. Mine was stored in a basement and the veneer is coming off at the bottom.... but it's still well made and whether I work on the veneer or not is up in the air just now. I really love the beautiful cabinets but I'm more in love with the machines.
