New Willard Sewing Machine
4 Attachment(s)
I sort of like the odd balls! This is a New Willard. There is not much information on the Internet regarding this machine. Decals are in nice shape. The last patent date is August 10, 1920 on the front slide plate. She came with a bullet shuttle and bobbin.

Nice machine! Now to get her shining.....!!
|
OK, you will report back how many gallons of oil and bags of cotton balls and gallons of Evapo-Rust you use .......
.....right? That machine is a task I'd take on. Do you have the treadle base for it too, or just the machine? Joe |
That's SWEET! I see a beauty ready to get her shine on.

Caroline,
I like the odd balls too. But part of my enjoyment is sewing with them. So I have to get them to that stage before I'm really happy. Joe |

I've got a New Willard in a Franklin parlor cabinet-it was my first treadle. New Willards are a badged Domestic, based on the Singer 27. (27 shuttle/bobbins will work in them, too.) Yours has the more typical pansy decals, mine has funky seahorse-looking things on it. Yours will be gorgeous when it's cleaned up! Nice find!

Mrs Boats, your machine is gorgeous!

Hi Ms. Boats.
That is a great machine. Never have seen one in the midwest, yet. I'll keep an eye out. It is sooo pretty. |
This rusty Willard makes my (Red Eye) still stuck in the needle bar area look like it was new. I have been diligent about TriFlow and hair dryer, but she still won't move more than a tiny wiggle. Good luck with getting this machine moving, as advised, start with the oil/Liquid Wrench now.

I can empathize with you about your Redeye. The refurbished 27 with the crinkle finish that I posted about a couple of weeks ago is in the same condition. It is the only sewing machine head that has stubbornly refused to cooperate. I will eventually wind up learning how to dismantle the whole thing internally. Next time I visit my OSMG I am going to ask him how it comes apart inside when one can't access it. I have put it aside to alleviate my frustration. Or re-purpose it as a door stop. |

She is going to be really pretty when she is cleaned up and ready to go :) Nice find!

Nice decals on both of these machines! I've never seen/heard of New Millard before but I am loving the decals they used. Those "seahorses" look kind of like Chinese dragons to me. VERY pretty.
I am looking forward to seeing the first one all cleaned up. I bet it's going to be gorgeous! |

Ok, I gotta ask..... How did you reach that conclusion? |
Probably because one site that pops up is one of those "what is my antique worth" garbage sites. And some totally uniformed fool said it was worth $500 or something like that.
Most "antique appraisers" don't have a clue about sewing machines, and get the dates way wrong because of the patent dates, and also think that because they "name" is uncommon, it must be worth more. |
I don't know if that lady is even active here anymore. This is a pretty old thread. Neat machine though.

I have a Willard A treadle machine in a parlor cabinet with a bullet bobbin similar to the Singer model 27. I can't quite figure out how to thread the tension spring after the thread goes through the tension wheels. Can anyone familiar with the Willard machines give me any advice?

I believe this is similar to your Willard.

Nice acquisition!
My understanding is that it is a badged White. |
