Not Vintage but Futuristic
 

"Machines" have come a long way! What a contrast to our beloved hand crank and treadle operations!

Thought this was very interesting even though it is the robot that has been developed.

Fascinating - seems a little slow though. Those people who sew our commercial clothing really zip through. I love technology a lot but I love my vintage/antique sewing machines more. The end was really cool - that paper garment went into the hot water and came out fabric!!! As a quilter I like the feel of the fabric and hopefully the wonderful things fabrics make.

It was fabric to begin with....just stiffened with chemicals, then rinsed.

There are a few modern designs I find interesting, very minimalistic with a fun or unusual design. However, I don't think they are much more than the old straight stitchers, less infact ( when it comes to sturdiness and capability at least). People have arrived at these results from either a user point of view aimed to simplify, or a storage point of view. Some just look cool. I like the wood and materials used in this one, but I just don't see much of a room for making something like a simple straight stitcher when we still have plenty of the old ones around. (At least I rather clean one up for use once I discovered how capable they are and nice to sew on).

. . . but where is the fun in that? I like making my own machine run - even if I do get bird nests or crooked seams or whatever. That is really sewing, to me.
