for 14 hundred bucks, you can have new AND old :p

Oh, I'm sure it's sew! pardon the pun. That store is in Amish country Ohio. Have been there and they have every thing retro you could ever dream of.

MimiBug123 01-19-2013 07:30 PM

Holy moly! For $1400, I can buy lots of good vintage machines!

Patty55 01-19-2013 07:43 PM

I'm sure that's a great machine and the cabinet is probably built to last forever. But it's not in my budget!

Krisb 01-19-2013 08:19 PM

The machine lists for $249, so most of the price must be in the cabinet. It's a Janome 712t. If you could find an intact Treadle base to drop the head into, you would save a lot of money.

mighty 01-19-2013 09:01 PM

Wow, that is pricey!!!!!

Mitch's mom 01-20-2013 07:24 AM

The price is for the cabinet. As Krisb said the machine is a Janome that lists for 249.00 and will fit in any Singer treadle base.

Wow, I can see Doomsday Preppers lining up!

Well, my curiosity is how much is Lehmans paying for it? I figure at least a 25% mark up if not more. If you could go direct to the manufacturer you could lower the price a bunch.

Or go to Omaha, NE and get an original treadle for 6.00 + gas.

If you are ever in east central Ohio, that store - Lehman's is awesome to visit! Very fun and interesting Amish-centered store. Most everything is aimed at Amish users of non -electric appliances and tools. The Amish- made furniture is not cheap, but well made.

There are also plenty of great Amish quilt/fabric stores in the area!

That's a gorgeous, simple cabinet and probably doesn't have a speck of composition wood in it. I'd bet it will outlast even the youngest members of this board and their children. :D

quiltmom04 01-20-2013 12:53 PM

I suspect this is a machine the Amish would use. They are not adverse to new technology, just being "tied" to the outside world with electric lines.

Where in Omaha was there an original treadle for $6 I am only 2 hours away?

sulyle 01-20-2013 06:39 PM

Wow, that's pretty pricey. Not that it's not worth it for what I'm guessing is beautiful workmanship. I guess if I compared the cost to a first class treadmill I might be able to make a case that I'd be using it as an exercise program.

I found a treadle for $5.00in Fruita,Co. its just west of Grand Juction , no machine and needed some wood redoing, but it turned out pretty.I put a singer 15 in it & it treadles perfict. DottieBug

I paid $100 bucks for my antique treadle and it has superb stitching and seven drawers!
