OK, I've read and read
Just got my 301, beige long bed. No feet, no cord, lots of dirt!! What should I use to clean the paint while I wait for the power cord? Everything seems to move freely by hand.

Hello AZ Jane - Wipe or blow off the excess dirt (so no scratchy bits abrade the surface) then use a tiny bit of sewing machine oil on a dab of cotton wool or soft cotton cloth, and wipe it off with a soft clean cloth.

OK, but won't that leave the surface oily?? I do have the Singer oil, new bottle, not old. I've oiled all the holes, LOL

OK, 301 and FW use the same power cord. Cleaned, oiled, threaded, sews wonderful!! All she needs is new feet on bottom, bobbin winder donut, light buld and a case!!

Jane you can find most of those items you need at Sew-Classic or Aprils1930s online. I got a 301a that needed cord, new feet on the bottom, new tensioner, new bobbin winder donut, new felts on the spool pins, etc. etc. Got it all at those 2 places for good prices. Don't you just love the 301's?? Even though your serial number said 1951, all the serial numbers for the 301s were allotted in 1951, and they didn't keep records of when the actual machines were made. So, anytime between 1951 and 1954, is best guess I have seen researching my 301a.

My # says 1956 for AnnieRose. I scrubbed the machine wirh Oxiclean, rinsed it well and dried it quickly. I think she lived with a smoker in her prior life. If I weren't thinking of painting her, I'd use a coat of car wax to make her shine. You need Singer or Triflow grease for the parts that are greased annually and oil for everything else that moves or might move. These little girls arrive thirsty.
