Does anyone know anything about this machine? A friend of mine came across it and is looking for info.

TIA!

Riccar is a Japanese company, and the Japanese are famous for their copies of the Singer model 15 machines, of which this one is an example. The Japanese clones are usually good. They even call it a model 15, ha!

I would say by the colors this was made during the 60's.

This is a very cool-looking machine and should clean up well. The wiring looks SCARY and should definitely be replaced before using the machine, or at least checked out by someone who knows what to look for. The wiring coming off the motor looks
really dried out with age.
Here is a link to the ISMACS site, on the history of the Riccar company:

Riccar machines are really well made!! That is a very nice machine to have and one that is not seen often. I will be the first to say that the Japanese 15's were way better than the Singer 15. The tolerances were a lot closer and you never had the clunky noises from the hook assembly having a sloppy fit. I love my Japanese 15 and it is my go to machine for all of my FMQ!!

Hi,

I am the friend who has the sewing machine. I do not know much about sewing machines, let alone an old one. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to restore it and where to get new parts such as belts, etc.

Thanks so much!!

Alison

I love the 2 tone paint colors. It would treadle nicely too.
