OMG, now I found eBay.
 

This is bad. I sold my Viking Quilt Designer II because I had more machines than I need. This afternoon I heard the words come out of my mouth "I'm thinking about selling the Viking Mega Quilter if I am enjoying these old machines so much. Especially if we're bidding on eBay". Who knew I would enjoy vintage more than the new ones. I have a Bernina 640 and a White Pearl that I know I'll keep but I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the Viking. I'm a LA Quilter anyway what do I need that fmq 9" throat for? Am I nuts?

not knowing if the other domestic machines quilt ... but what if you need to quilt a small piece? A wall hanging, place mats, table runner? Would you want to load one of these small pieces up on a long arm?

Just something to think about.

Yup, I put on everything on the LA. It's a 14' APQS Milennium with Intelliquilter. I wouldn't even attempt fmq although I used to do freehand embroidery on the domestic. Why give up these vintage beauties for a new one that is only straight stitch when I don't fmq? Meeting with a sewing group this today, think I'll see what they think it's worth.

I don't think you are any more nuts than any of us that love vintage machines-------there is just "something" about them! I only have my Bernina and mid arm Pfaff (on a frame) and am seriously considering finding a new home for the Bernina except it does embroidery. Enjoy the adventure!

after a fire when I lost my old singer I bought a Brother NX450 Q It was about $800 all together. i really dislike that machine. Has a tinker toy for a foot peddle. I can't do patchwork on it . It slops off to the side every time I sew over a seam. ( well I do anyway). It insists on making an extra stitch every time I quit sewing. I finally did figure out how to default the needle position to the center after I broke 3 needles. And the 30 dollar 1/4 foot does not do a 1/4 seam.
Anyway enough whining .. I got on E-Bay and bought a 301 , the thing purrs ,straight as an arrow over all seams. I
slapped a $2. magnet down on the plate for 1/4 seams , although the plate cover has a very good marker. Wish I had my $800. back

Yes, I feel the same about the 2 Brother machines I have. Doesn't Janome have something to do with Brother? I do know Brother started in England, originally. My Janome Horizon has a built in walking foot and it is fantastic. How did I even quilt without it? And the automatic thread cutter is to die for. I also have half a dozen vintage machines. Each one lhas a purpose. Some are better at certain stitches. You will eventually find a machine to suit. Don't give up.

I agree and sometimes (often) think of selling my Bernina. I have a treadle 15-91, a featherweight, a Singer clone 15-91 and a 403. I love them all and each one is a bit different and so much fun to sew on and never burp or spit at you!

here is one that just sold on ebay....you could buy a couple vintage machines for that money!

I sure would like to get more than that for my Mega Quilter. It does sew great and would be great for fmq. But the old ones are more fun.
