Over 40 years old an antique?
Yesterday I was on the Singer machine dating site and they have machines 40 years old listed as antiques. Dose that seem odd to any one else?

Wow, I didn't know I was antique! Seems a bit extreme to be calling a 40 year old machine antique. A more appropriate term would be vintage.
I always thought that 50 years was the antique mark!
I see that all the time and I'm with you, I don't consider 40, an antique, but what do I know. LOL
I thought 100yrs. was antique. I don't know either.
Guess I will take into consideration the source....40's an antique is like saying Singers are 'rare' machines
Well my state considers cars over 40 vintage... so i can believe a sewing machine. Lol

Antique = 100 years +
Vintage = 50 to 100 years It boils down to those who work at Singer now, know nothing about the older machines other than what's on their computer database. Besides, anything older than their parents must be an antique .... right? Joe |
100 years is Antique and 50 years is vintage.
my understanding is that 100 years is antique and pre 1975 is vintage. So none of my machines are antiques, through the 1918 Redeye , the 1926 White Rotary and the 1928 Leader all look it to me.
