Painting controllers to match
1 Attachment(s)
Most of my vintage machines have the old Mercury brand metal foot controllers. And very few of the controllers actually color match the machines.
Most of the time I don't care, but for a couple of the machines I'd like to paint the controllers to match. Here's an example of one I want to make match: The blue controller has been with this machine as long as I can remember, I've fixed it so it works really great so I don't want to replace it. What I'm curious about is what paint would I use that would be durable and long lasting. Sanding isn't a problem, and unless the original paint is in bad shape it can be used as a primer. But, Krylon, Rustoleum, ???????????? Any idears from those who paint stuff? Joe |
Joe sand it lightly to give the paint some bite. I use automotive paint in a spray from an auto store. Use gloss black or spray with satin and use an auto clear coat to shine it up. I find it durable enough to use on a foot controller.

Great looking machine Joe! Automotive paint is going to be far more durable than anything you can buy in a rattle can at a hardware store. It's not cheap but good automotive paint stores will custom mix paints and load them in a spray can for you.

Don't know anything about paint, but that is a pretty machine.
