Pfaff 30 treadle

I desperately need needles for my vintage Paff 30 treadle machine. Purchased organ needles 130/705H 15x1. They are seemingly wrong. The upper thread does not catch the lower thread. Please help. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Karin

Are you thinking that a longer needle will solve your problem? I don't think it works that way. I have an electric Pfaff 30 in a cabinet. For a long time, I did not use it, thinking it needed a more exotic bobbin holder, etc. I emailed a gentleman who sold models of this machine, and was surprised to learn that I already had bobbins that would work. I do not use this gem often, but when I do, am always pleased with the way it purrs.
Do you have the instruction manual? It says use Pfaff needles system 705R. Try removing the needle and replacing it, plus rethreading the machine.

Like mentioned, it should take basic 705 needles a.k.a. 130 and 15x1. I would however do some thorough cleaning, taking off the needle clamp, cleaning parts, even scraping out the groove in the needle bar (or maybe the inside of the clamp). Much the same for the area under throat plate; feed dogs, bobbin case, hook and race. Make sure the needle goes in the right way. Double check with the manual, but I think the needle goes in with the flat side to the right and it threads from left to right.

Remove whatever parts you need to so you can watch the needle and hook. Is needle too high, too low, not throwing a loop or throwing loop in wrong direction. Take it from there. Most of the time the problem is simple but a few head scratchers turn up now and then.

I would just echo the comments on cleaning up everything in the area well. I took mine out of the treadle and powered it with a little steam engine run on compressed air, just for fun.

This may be too simple, but my 30 threads from left to right through the needle, which is opposite of many of my machines. Just a thought.

Leonf, you are so weird, but in exactly the way we are around here.

I use Schmetz Microtex 80/12 needles in my Pfaff 30 treadle.
